Humanity today faces a multitude of challenges when it comes to public health and the natural environment. Problems like Covid-19, climate change, water scarcity, and resource depletion have become more and more severe. These and many other issues must be resolved if we are to build a sustainable world that can support future generations in an era of increasing populations and aging demographics.
Since the very founding of R3, our fundamental mission has been to contribute to society through the creation of new value with innovative ideas and technology to ensure our impact extends beyond business. This commitment influences the partnerships we form, the events we organize, and the products we develop.
Corporate social responsibility during the International Day of Giving
Giving Tuesday took place November 30 and is known as the International Day of Giving. We at R3 knew it was our societal duty to participate in this special day. For every donation made by an R3er to a charity of their choosing during the 24-hour period, our R3 CSR committee posted a double match donation. This resulted in more than $90,000 USD being donated to 53 charities across the globe!

During CordaCon 2021, R3 donated on behalf of every in-person and virtual attendee to Charity Water as part of our R3 Cares initiative. This resulted in an amazing donation of over $11,000 USD to support the building of one well in Ethiopia, which will provide clean drinking water to a village! The well will be named CordaCon21.
Every month around 166 children living with a life-limiting condition will have their lives cut short, and with the challenges of daily life in a pandemic, their dreams are more at risk of being forgotten. R3 decided to get involved and donated 166 GBP/USD to Dreams Come True UK, Make a Wish Foundation New York and Make a Wish Foundation Singapore per R3 employee who completed the 166 Challenge. This resulted in a total donation of over $21,000 USD to those three organizations.
Covid-19 relief efforts
With the current global health crisis and the hardships that many continue to face, we at R3 recognized a need to do whatever we can to help. Through our Corporate Social Responsibility committee, we polled employees to determine organizations that are actively supporting Covid-19 relief efforts and donated more than $45,000 USD to 6 charities.
National 3 Peaks Challenge UK
The classic Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. The overall distance to complete the challenge is around 37 km and you typically spend around 14 hours walking on a successful challenge. In September, 6 members of the R3 London team took on The National 3 Peaks Challenge and raised more than 5,000 GBP for Dreams Come True.
Weekly virtual Bar3 donations
Across R3 offices globally, we host (now virtually) a weekly happy hour dubbed ‘Bar3’ for employees to unwind and positively engage with one another in non-work focused activities. As part of this social activity, R3 encourages participation donations from employees in the amount of their choosing, which are then 100% matched by R3 and donated to a rotation of charitable organizations across the globe. Over the last 19 weeks, we have been fortunate enough to donate to over 28 charities.
R3 is a proud sponsor of ripeCommunity, a web-based directory of food businesses serving the local community during the Covid-19 crisis. Built by ripe.io, an active participant in R3’s ecosystem, the goal is to connect those providing food (restaurants, farms, farm businesses, grocery stores) with community members who need food and ingredients during these unprecedented times.
Delivering food to those in need
Since R3 employees transitioned from in-office to remote working as a result of Covid-19 precautions, our London and Dublin offices have been redirecting our weekly non-perishable food deliveries to various organizations that support individuals in need, such as first responders and front-line workers and those who are facing homelessness, poverty and social exclusion. To date we have collectively donated nearly 35,000 individual food and drink items to these organizations.
