We are looking for a Build and Release Engineer to join a new Build team in the Engineering team, you will be tasked with rethinking how we build our software and host and manage the engineering organisation’s automated test pipeline. You will have a passion for build engineering and continuous improvement. You will be building and supporting the CI/CD pipeline and you will create frameworks, tools and infrastructure to support the internal engineering community. You will also be the go-to build expert for the wider Engineering division and help them troubleshoot and optimise the build process You will be working closely with the IT Ops and Core Engineering teams.

You can work independently to research a problem domain to gain insight and subsequently deliver the work and solve the problem. Most importantly you are excited and motivated by the challenge of solving hard problems in a way that delivers to internal customers within Engineering.

Day to day responsibilities

  • Work as a member of a team within the larger engineering group to support the build tooling for a variety of JDK based applications
  • Be passionate about build pipelines. Raise standards for, and continuously improve, the build and test pipeline
  • Take full ownership of building pipeline, work closely with the team and lead build engineer
  • Support teams across the Engineering division in maintaining build scripts, the build pipeline and associated tooling
  • Take ownership of a small project or a workstream
  • Code review peers both within your team and in the wider organisation
  • Champion engineering excellence

Knowledge and experience:

  • Good understanding of software build, continuous integration and continuous deployment and be able to recognise good practice
  • Experience in an enterprise level environment
  • Experience with JDK build systems, preferably Gradle
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably Jenkins
  • Proven problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure

Desirable:

  • The following would be a significant advantage:
  • Experience working in mixed Business As Usual (BAU) support/strategic delivery environment
  • Experience with Jenkins, JFrog Artifactory, GitHub, Splunk
  • Experience with AWS and/or Azure
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience developing custom Gradle plugins
