R3 is looking for a lead technical writer to join our Technical Writing Team. You will build up the documentation strategy and manage a team of writers dedicated to creating instructional and reference documentation for R3’s permissioned blockchain platform.
As well as leading the team, you will play a key role in delivering essential documentation to support one of the world’s most successful commercial blockchain platforms.
The team
You will lead a friendly team of technical writers with varying levels of experience and specialisms. Your team have different backgrounds and skills, but share a love for writing and the conviction that world-class documentation is the only way to ensure world-class technology.
What we do
The Technical Writing Team helps R3 customers and the Corda developer community understand how to use our suite of trust technology products. Our documentation is a core part of the Corda platform. There is no UI or visual application here – Corda is code (Java and Kotlin) and documentation, so the docs have to be accurate, engaging, and inspiring for our users.
We are documentation evangelists who are passionate about technical writing. Like engineers, we enjoy solving problems and we can be very creative when doing so. We do have an opinion on the use of the Oxford comma. We are hardworking information hunters, meticulous knowledge keepers, and dedicated storytellers. Plus a few other things.

What you will be doing:

  • Leading the Technical Writing Team to achieve the strategic goals of R3 and the Corda platform.
  • Analysing upcoming features and platform versions, planning and assigning writers to each team and project.
  • Managing the Corda documentation site, including how docs are produced as well as published.
  • Transforming developer knowledge and code comments into human-readable, illuminating content.
  • Solving writing problems with a creative mindset.
  • Using and contributing to an established style and tone of voice guide.
  • Owning your assigned tech writing projects and leading the journey from design meeting to publication.
  • Building relationships across the business to continuously improve the docs.
  • Always looking for ways to improve our published content.

About you (you do not need to be all of these things):

  • You have managed a team before and can demonstrate effective leadership skills.
  • You have inspired teams to success in raising documentation standardsin a complex technical software development environment.
  • You are familiar with GitHub, markdown for writing docs, and have an interest in other approaches to docs, including DITTA and other topic-based systems.
  • You have overseen UX and/or web development projects.
  • You are technically minded and interested in cryptography.
  • You’re prepared to write and edit along with your direct reports.
  • At R3, we encourage a diverse and inclusive workforce. If you don’t meet all of the above criteria, but you think you’d be a great addition to R3, send us your CV. We’re always interested in meeting collaborative people who are excited to work with us.
