The successful candidate will work as part of the Platform Engineering cohort focusing on the development of the underlaying technologies that enable the notarisation of transactions and thus finality between parties to be achieved. The extensibility, maintainability, and correctness of this aspect of the Corda Platform is a major tenet of the successes of Corda and the successful applicant will take a key role in delivering this.
Additionally, a major stakeholder in the output of the Corda Platform is the R3 Managed Services cohort, specifically the Notaries squad, which operationalises and deploys into production instances of various notary services, efectivly partnering with this team will be a large part of any work undertaken.
The Platform Engineering team are responsible for the delivery of the core of the Corda platform from the networking and discovery of peers to the reaching of concensus and the underlying programing model. It focusses on the low level, back end, work that enables Corda to deliver its promise as the Enterprise DLT platform of choice.
Key competencies:
Depth of Expertise: Typically, 5+ years of notable commercial experience, in two or more areas
Innovation & Improvement: Able to contribute in feature design and provide validation of changes proposed in review sessions
Take on write-up of design features with frequent architectural reviews with reviewers outside of own team
Level of Interaction: Communicate effectively with engineers and product managers, liase with the CMS Notaries Squads
Coaching & Talent Management: Buddying and technical interviewing. May lead/mentor interns or more junior engineers
Impact: Able to capture bug fixes and rationale for decisions in log
Decision Making: Reasonable autonomy on bug fixing that is captured in decision logs


  • Work as a member of a team within the larger engineering group to deliver high quality, well tested, code.
  • Participation in the thought leadership surrounding the ledger model as part of the Corda ecosystem.
  • Code review peer and open-source contributions to the codebase
  • Contribute to the technical enablement of R3’s field teams
  • Liaise with the R3 Support team to troubleshoot and address customer issues
  • Liaise with the up-stream squads to support amnd troublwshoot their issues.
  • Able to work with product managers to deliver larger features without guidance supervision
  • Able to take a feature from design to delivery with minimal guidance and input from Engineering leads.

Education and Experience:

  • Strong understanding of computer science and engineering principles, obtained through a combination of advanced academic study and significant professional experience
  • Typically, 5+ years’ experience in an enterprise level environment
  • Experience delivering enterprise grade software
  • Familiarity of multiple layers of the infrastructure and application stack from systems / OS development through networking, middleware, and application logic
  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Understanding of consencus algorithms a benefit
  • A strong theoretical grounding in distributed systems and “big data” style problems.

If we are fortunate enough to welcome you to the team, we’ll get a laptop couriered to you and get you set up virtually on your first day.  We also provide you with a “Work From Home” allowance to enable you to purchase some equipment to be more comfortable and productive.
